Bowater Mersey

BOWATER MERSEY PAPER COMPANY

BROOKLYN, NS

CIRCA 1929-2012

Started in 1929 by a now famous Nova Scotia industrialist, Izaak Walton Killam, Mersey Paper was located in Brooklyn at the estuary of the Mersey River.

In 1956, Killam's estate sold the mill to Bowater and they in turn brought in the storied Washington Post as a 49% partner in the ensuing years.

The mill operated until 2012 when then owner Resolute Forest Products shuttered the mill and sold the assets to the Province of Nova Scotia.
